Weekend Project Update January 15, 2017

No completions to announce but progress has been made.

I have finished one heel so far and getting ready for the second of my Fade-In Fade-Out Sockens.  One thing I did do so this pair would not end up being a UFO is I wove in all of the ends in the foot portion before working the heel.  I just completed weaving in the ends for the second sock so I can begin that heel.

 

I am using the Fish Lips Kiss Heel pattern which is one of my favorite heels to knit.  With that heel I like the fit of the socks much better than other heels I have knitted.

I still have the table runner on the loom.  I have about 10 more inches to weave before I start the last set of borders and hearts.  I can hardly wait to see how the hearts turn out once the piece is off the loom and wet finished.

That is what I have been working on this weekend.

Wednesday's Weaving Update 1/11/17

I haven't done much weaving lately.   I keep looking at my loom and thinking of projects, checking out Ravelry, watching you tube rather than warping the loom and get weaving.

I have been  thinking of this project for a while and found Kelly Casanova's You Tube channel for some inspiration.  This morning I warped the loom with worsted weight cotton for a table topper that will feature hearts.  Kelly has a video for Branoe inspired hearts that I will be using as my guide.  I did not get too far today before I needed to stop and get ready for work but at least I got the border done and ready for the hearts.

Last week I finally did the hemstitching on a set of towels I finished probably a year ago.   Love to use handwoven cotton towels.  I have 2 other sets that I had woven, they are so absorbent and feel so good to use.

Today is a Happy Weaving Day.

Where Have I Been for 3 Months

It's been a while since I have posted but here is my last 3 months in review.

In August we took 2 of our granddaughters camping in Destin Florida for a week.  Had a great time - lots of laughing, shopping, and walking on the beach.

Finished my Camp Loopy Project #3 - Elfe.  Loved knitting this top so much I want to make another but add sleeves to it.  I knit Elfe using Dream in Color Smooshy in Butter Peeps and Malibu Sail.

Finished 3 quilts.

I had surgery on my foot in mid September

Finished a pair of socks I started in July.  The pattern is Double Eyelet Toe-Up Socks by Wendy D Johnson and the yarn is Trekking XXL

Started and finished knitting a cardigan - all done except blocking and adding the buttons.  The pattern is Woodstove by Alicia Plummer.  This is a great pattern, I love the texture on the back.  The best part is that the button band is knitted along with the body of the sweater and its knitted top down - no seaming, no picking up stitches.  The yarn is Malabrigo Rios in the Ivy color.

Also did a little weaving and finished a few of scarves.  The ones I chose to picture are a couple colorweave scarves, the rest were plain weave in solid colors.

Weaving on Wednesday

Thought I would share a couple of scarves I finished recently.

 

The first one is an orange scarf I made from three different shades in a plaid plain weave pattern.

 

 

The next scarf is woven from a painted sock yarn using waffle weave technique.  Love the feel of the scarf - so soft and thick feeling but still an open weave with pooling of the yarn colors.

Weaving on Wednesday - July 15, 2015

Been a little bit since I have done any weaving but back at the loom today.

 

More than a month ago I started a plaid plain weave scarf done in 3 shades of orange.  Normally I have a sticky note pad with any notes of how I started and a count on how many inches I have woven.  Can't find the pad, so I'm guessing. I'll just weave in color sequence until the end but then I will have to unroll to see how I did the hem stitch and how many rows I wove in the beginning.

 

 

Should be finishing up today then on to twisting the fringe.

On the Needles Friday - March 28, 2014

Or should it be 'Off the Needles Friday.'  I finished my Lacy Rib Socks for the Spring Loopy Ewe Challenge on Wednesday.  Love the texture and easy pattern to knit. 
 

 

 

I also off the loom is a pair of towels using Sugar n' Cream yarn.  The thick yarn is great for hand towels but I feel a little thick for drying dishes.

On the Needles Friday - March 14, 2014

This week I decided I should start my socks for The Loopy Ewe Spring Challenge since it was getting close to the middle of the month.  I decided to knit Lacy Rib Socks by Wendy D. Johnson.  I highly recommend this pattern, very easy pattern and I love the texture.  The yarn I am using is Lorna's Laces Solemate in the colorway called Ashburn.

 

 

I did a little weaving last weekend and finished a set of kitchen towels and knitted 3 matching dishcloths.  I used Sugar and Cream yarn for all the items.

Yarn Report Week 9 2014

My yarn purchase is the fault of The Loopy Ewe starting the Spring Challenge.  I purchased Lorna Laces' Solemate to knit a pair of socks for the challenge.

 

 

Then I decided that the next sweater I want to knit is Rolling Rock by Thea Coleman so I bought 10 skeins for Cascade 220 Sport  - the color is Lake Chelan Heather

 

I have one completion for the week.  My Pooling Yarn Scarf I wove using  Loopy Legends in Debbie's Autumn Joy - sorry Judy I would have used your colorway but it was sold out when I made my purchase.  I still need to twist the fringe and wet finish but I calling it done so my numbers don't look so bad.

Weaving on Wednesday - December 4, 2013

 Meet my new to me loom - it is a Leclerc Nilus.  I bought it about a month ago from the Opportunity House in Hendersonville.  I am hoping to get a warp on it soon since I had just received a towel kit I ordered and am reviewing videos for warping a floor loom.

 

 

I finished the table runners that I was working on last week and right now they are drying - so pictures next week.  Today I started another table runner with one more I have planned after this one.  I am using Sugar & Cream yarn so they are going pretty fast.

Weaving on Wednesday - November 27, 2013

This past week I developed the Holiday bug and decided to get some table runners woven.  I finished the first one which is a green and red log cabin design runner.  This is the first time I wove the this pattern and I'm liking it allot, in fact I am warping up a red/green/white one.  I am using Sugar & Cream cotton yarn which is easily accessible for me here if I need more.

 

I also have in progress a pair of towels which I am using a mercerized cotton thread.  My edges could be better but hopefully the finishing will hide some of the wonkiness.

Weaving on Wednesday

Last week I received my order from Knit Picks to make a few scarves inspired by the Burberry Scarves.  The yarn I am going to use Wool of the Andes Sport with the main colors of the scarves being in blue, pink, yellow and purple.

The colors in the first scarf are Wonderland Heather, Rouge, Coal and White.

Weaving on Wednesday

A little bit better than a week ago I warped one of my looms and started on this scarf.

 

I'm making slow progress but am now over half way done with the weaving.  The yarn is Knit Picks Stroll Fingering in Blue Topaz and Cocoa.

Weaving Wednesday.

Today was a day of finishes. 

 

First to be finished were my tea towels done on my 24" loom.  The towels were woven from Lily's Sugar and Cream worsted weight cotton yarn.  These will make great hand towels in the kitchen.

 

Also finished today was the scarf I wove from repurposed Kroy sock yarn.  The yarn felt a little scratchy off the loom but after a soak in Eculan and a spin in the dryer it really softened up.  The scarf ended up measuring only 44" long by 6" wide but I think it work out great just to drape around the neck to use as an accessory.

 

Over the next couple of days I'll get both looms warped with another set of towels and another scarf.

Weaving Wednesday

Thought I would start updating my weaving projects on Wednesdays rather than mixing them in with my knitting posts on Friday.

 

A week ago I received my 24" Kromski Rigid Heddle Loom but did not have a chance to it until this past Sunday to start any project.  First on the new loom is Tea Towels from the online class I took on Craftsy.  I am using Lily's Sugar and Cream yarn with a 8 dent heddle.  I was able to complete the first towel and ready to start the second.

 

Last week I finished this scarf using Knit Picks Stroll in Merry-Go-Round colorway for the weft and Dove Heather for the warp.  The scarf finished at 6.5" x 72" off the loom but I still need to wet finish it so I will measure again.

 

 

This morning I warped my Cricket loom for another scarf using Paton's Kroy Sock Yarn I am repurposing from a pair of socks I started but had not finished even the first sock.

 

 

 

I'm really enjoying weaving, lots of ideas but need to still practice and take my time getting my edges even.

On the Needles Friday

Which is actually Off the Needles Saturday.

 

On Wednesday I finished my Camp Loopy Project #1 Scylla Socks.  I love the texture and can hardly wait until cooler temps to slip these on.

 

 

I also finished my Vesper Socks on Friday.  I used a basic toe-up pattern and let the striping do the work.

 

 

Have not done much weaving this week, only progressed about 4 inches on my scarf, but hope to get more done this week.

On the Needles Friday

I am still working on my Camp Loopy Project #1 socks - Scylla. I was almost done on Wednesday, had a couple more rows of the ribbing and I weighed the remaining yarn and found I did not use enough yarn.  The project was to use 375 yards and I was at 360.  So I decided to un-knit back to the pattern and do another 10 rows of the pattern to help get me to the required yardage.  The socks are getting a little longer than I like but I love the texture the pattern creates.
 

 

For Camp's second project I will be knitting Vine Lace Vest using Cascade Ultra Pima in the color Sage.

 

 

Last week I warped my loom with yarn for a scarf but did not start weaving until yesterday.  I am using Knit Picks Stroll Fingering in Dove Heather for the warp and for Merry-Go-Round the weft.  On this scarf I am really trying to concentrate on my edges and making sure my weaving is even and balanced.

On the Needles Friday

I finished my second pair of socks for the Pooling Sock Challenge on Wednesday.  This pair was knitted top down but I still prefer toe up only because I like the way the heels are done - no pick-up stitches.

 

My third pair for the challenge has given me a little issue because it would not pool on my samples.  So there will be only two completed for the challenge which really doesn't matter since I will be gone around the first and won't be able to post.

 

The yarn I was going to use for the challenge is Vesper by Knitterly Things.  This is the first time I am knitting with it and it feels wonderful.  The coloway is Sugar Plum and just knitting the basic toe up sock pattern.

 

My yarn came today for Camp Loopy.  For my first project for Camp I am knitting Scylla out of Woolen Mill St. Yarns in Zoe colorway.

 

On the Loom - I am working on a scarf from left over sock yarn that I will be gifting it to a friend of mine in Wisconsin.  The yarn is Knit Picks Stroll in Make Believe and Duchess Heather.

Made progress on both of my Pooling Socks this week, and loving both of them.

Sock #1 Toe-Up is 2 3/4 inches from being done and I should finish them

this week.

 

 

Sock #2 Top-Down is ready to start the heel.

 

 

I got my loom setup yesterday and have gotten a start on my practice scarf.  Need some work on the edges but goes pretty quickly with worsted weight yarn.
